Ever After Photography by Jen | A piece of my heart went right…

blog
She asked her sister to braid her hair, to approve the first day outfit and "look," she laughed and smiled as they sat across from one another and ate their breakfast together. She helped carry backpacks and lunchboxes to the car, helped to make sure we had it all. She was the little sister looking up to big sister... she was the elder taking care of the younger. They took they obligatory first day photographs for mom and made silly faces and precious smiles... but as they hugged and we ventured on our way to school, a piece of my heart went right as I and the youngest kept straight. One set of school gear went in one car, as the other went in mine. One precious daughter buckled up…

Mothers Within – Legacy Photography

blog
I decided to take a few days before I wrote this entry for several reasons. First, I wanted to enjoy the day marked as Mother's Day, as no matter what I may feel about it, I know my husband and children will mark it somehow and I want to appreciate and embrace whatever they choose to do. Second, I needed a little time, about a week now, to process through all the emotions and feelings I have surrounding this "holiday." I am proud to be a mom to three amazing children. I am proud of our triumphs and struggles and I am proud of the ties that bind us, now and forever. Being a mom and parent can be thankless but I remain thankful for the honor and privilege of…

Tips & Tricks for Better Photography of Your Kiddos (Part 3)

blog
We all have them, whether from our own childhood or from the momentous occasions in our children's lives - the blurry, the dark, the overexposed, the grainy, the awkward photos. The ones where you say with frustration and dejection, "Aw, man! I missed it." Different from the quality, heirloom pieces, created by a professional, that you hang on your walls and make into albums, every day life photography is a skill that any parent needs. In this day and age just about everyone has some sort of camera and it is common to hear the click of a shutter when a photo is snapped. This everyday practice is probably most notable during those life events that parents all too familiar with - The Dance Recital, The Birthday Party and The…

Newborn Photography | Baby J

blog
A sneak peak at a sweet new baby... Newborn photography and baby photography is about truly capturing those tiny feet, those pouty lips pursed in sleep, frustration, wonder and contentment. It is about gently swaddling a precious new addition in love and preserving those too fleeting moments for a lifetime. The wall art and albums our clients choose from their sessions are heirlooms and treasures that they can enjoy for a lifetime. I am so thrilled to share these portraits with this family and for them to hang these beautiful images in their home soon. I am so excited to share this session with this family later today. He was such a handsome little man and a pleasure to get to know. I do love babies and especially those sweet…

Bringing Your Own Personality to A Session | Huntsville, AL Photographer

blog
The beauty of being a photographer and having my own business, is I get the opportunity to meet and work with so many different people. Each has its own unique personalities, dynamics and interests. Photography is an art form and you are the paint on my canvas - vibrant, colorful, individual and full of possibility. Families who express interests such as hiking, camping, sports, the movies, or a special location to name a few - may decide to style their session in a way that we incorporate those elements. Imagine going to a local ice cream parlor with your favorite people and actually getting a chance to laugh, play and enjoy your unique silliness as part of your family session. How much fun would that be? Capturing those natural, vibrant…

Generations of Love | Huntsville, AL Family Portrait Photographer

blog
"Love your family. Spend time, be kind & serve one another. Make no room for regrets. Tomorrow is not promised & today is short." ~ Unknown I recently had the unique pleasure of photographing my own family as a gift for my mother in-law for her 80th birthday. When I say my family, I mean my husband's two brothers and their families in addition to my own and my in-laws. 4 families, 15 people, 7 grandchildren. It was tiring, exhilarating, colorful, energetic, and absolutely wonderful. Who knows when we will all get together again? Most of the grandchildren are now graduating, either high school or college and schedules are even harder to coordinate. To celebrate this milestone birthday, we all traveled to a special place that has become dear to…

“The Disc”

blog
These days you can hear, whether you want to or not, all kinds of opinions and thoughts about just about everything. One of the hot button issues for photographers and clients is the issue of "The Disc." The Disc is often a cd with digital files from a photography session. For photographers who specialize in prints and products, sometimes there can be hard feelings for photographers that sell just a disc of images. For clients, it may seem easier and cheaper to just get a disc and print for themselves. Now, these concepts may not sound like a big deal, but they can be. Simply said, Ever After Photography is not in the CD selling business. It just isn't how I prefer to run my business. I do not particularly…

Huntsville Portrait Photographer | Why not?

blog
Today was one of those days where time just seemed to fly. Every time I happened to stop and look at the clock, not a few minutes had passed, but rather hours! How? Was I really that engrossed in my editing and work that I truly did not feel the passage of time? All too often I think that is simply how life is. We have a brief quiet moment, we look around and think to ourselves, "Where did the time go?" Whether it be that next birthday, the fast approaching holiday season, the beginning or end of another school year... time simply soars. Frequently when I am photographing families and children that I have known for a while, I am taken aback by how much those sweet, precious children…

Brown Eyed Girl and My Girl | Huntsville Portrait Photographer

blog
Some songs are simple classics. They make me think of good 'ol Americana, dusty back roads, and summertime breezes. As another southern summer winds down and we begin the slow transition into fall, I wanted to capture some of those classic looks and feels for my own walls. To tell a story of innocence, flower picking, butterfly chasing, running through fields and Kool-aid in mason jars... the perfect end of summer days. Do you remember when we used to sing... I saw you just the other day, my, how you have grown! Laying in the green grass... Well, I guess you'd say What can make me feel this way? My girl Talkin' bout my girls... Classic Beauty | Huntsville Portrait Photographer

blog
Braced on the edge between sweet childhood and young adulthood, I have a special place in my heart for adolescents and tweens. I love their wit and maturing sense of humors. I am enthralled by their shyness, as they navigate uncharted waters and find their place in this world. Above all, I love seeing them smile with confidence and seeing that sparkle in their eyes as they tell me about themselves, their hopes, dreams, family and friends.- Jen I am pleased to introduce one such young lady and to present a sneak peek of some of my personal favorites from her recent session with Ever After by Jen.Her story is one that radiates joy and beauty from the inside out. Hers is a spirit that is pure and full of grace.…

My Story | Huntsville Portrait Photographer

blog
owner/photographer When I grew up, I wanted to be an artist, a dancer, a princess, a doctor, a teacher... As a child, I ran through cow pastures, climbed giant oak trees with limbs that touched the ground, lay in fields on blankets gazing up at the stars, made mud pies, saw castles in the clouds, dreamed and played make believe. My days were full of imagination, blanket forts, dirt, tutus and laughter. As an adult, I still try to see the world and life with eyes of wonder, creativity and joy - the eyes of a child, of a person in love, eyes of innocence, happiness and pure wonderment. Why... simply and beautifully, because I believe in fairy tales... My story began with a love of art and drawing. At…
